Protesting tyre workers on Tuesday (February 13) threw eggs, flares and other items at French riot police during a demonstration by hundreds of people outside the headquarters of the U.S.-owned Goodyear tyre company, as its management board prepared to discuss the closure of a plant in the north of the country.
Riot police raised their shields for protection as the demonstrators pelted them with eggs. The police advanced slowly to force the protesters back.
The decision by Goodyear to close a French plant employing 1,250 workers near the northern city of Amiens was announced in January.
