Europe, Jan 28: They call Shias 'Kafirs' - or those who don't believe in God - and kill them mercilessly. Shias, a minority community in Pakistan, continue to face atrocities perpetrated by Pakistan-backed Sunni militant outfits. Their troubles started in early 1980s when Zia-ul-Haq sponsored anti-Shia forces brought about a socio-political polarization among the communities. But, a permanent trust deficit was created in May 1988 when tribal Lashkars, after receiving a nod of approval from General Zia, abducted local women and killed thousands of Shias in Gilgit. The killings have been repeated endlessly in Chilas, Kohistan and Mustang. Shia leaders are angry with the Pakistan establishment for targeting the community in Gilgit-Baltistan
