In this video from Rocky Tapscott at http://thefollowuplab.com discusses whether you should be using long or short email subject lines and which one gets the highest response (and open rates).

This is something you'll need to test in your market, but short, succinct email subject lines are usually better. It's important to follow the recommendations I've given you in the other videos in this series. Remember, it's pointless sending an email if the subject line isn't strong enough to get people to open the message.

A good benchmark is to keep subject lines less than 50 characters unless you have a really good reason to make them longer. If many of your readers will be using mobile devices to access their email, subject lines of less than 20 characters are best.

And if you include enough information to let people know what your message is about towards the beginning of your email, you'll cater to both your web and mobile readers.
