In this video from Rocky Tapscott at http://thefollowuplab.com we discuss whether email personalisation helps or hinders the response rate from your email campaigns.

Personalisation is something to test, but in many cases it's not really necessary. If you look at messages sent by your friends, you'll notice that many of them don't address you by your first name; they just start writing.

Frank Kern makes more money from email marketing than most people, and he doesn't use a first name anywhere. The other important thing about asking for a first name is in some markets, it can cut down the number of people who join your list dramatically.

That's why it pays to test asking for name and email, verses asking for email only, and gauging the results. In many cases, you'll find you get more subscribers to join the email only list, and the readers will be just as responsive.
