Syria's military has launched fresh airstrikes on rebel compounds in the capital, Damascus.

The planes carried out raids on Thursday, pummelling areas east of the city, where clashes have raged for months.

The number of dead or injured was not immediately available.

Divisions over how to end the 19-month conflict remain.
