The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has appealed to the UN General Assembly to upgrade the Palestinian's status at the global forum to "non-member state", which would effectively recognise its statehood.

At the same time he insisted he still saw a chance for a "two-state solution" between the Palestinians and Israel, but he was also critical.
