Man Completes 30 Half-Marathons With Fridge Strapped To Back - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.
Successfully completing a marathon is grueling enough. So imagine the pain if you also had a heavy appliance on your back while running.
A fit grandfather, 48-year-old Tony Phoenix-Morrison from the UK has completed his 30th half marathon in the same amount of consecutive days with an 88 pound fridge tied to his back. Traveling an accumulated total of 390 miles, fans cheered him on the entire way. At the finish line, he met his idol and founder of the half-marathon event, Brendan Foster.
Tony agreed to run the challenging race to raise funds for Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which assists in the treatment of cancer. He stated “I am truly humbled and blessed to have completed the challenge. I had some bad days but along the line there were a couple of rainbows”.
Early this year, another unlikely competitor raised awareness for cancer. 10-year-old, Kyle Lograsso from Southern California, held a one day golf marathon for his own foundation, named Through Kyle's Eyes. The marathon, dubbed The Fight Fore Sight 100 was initiated to bring awareness to retina cancer.
