80-Year-Old Granny Fights Thiefs With Mangoes - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.
We’ve all heard stories of feisty retirees trying their best to take down the bad guys. This week, an 80 year old woman from New Bedford may have given the word ‘brave’ a new definition. While shopping at her son-in-law’s store, Otilia Martins showed a lot of courage when two robbers entered the shop. The thieves demanded money from the clerk and when one man pointed a revolver, Martins decided to throw fruit at the men. The elderly woman tossed several mangoes and a bag of apples at the gunman. She even tried to stop them from leaving, resulting in a blow to her head from the weapon. The crooks made off with roughly $500, but police caught them after a brief chase. As for Martins, she declined medical attention and is doing fine.
In another story involving a brave granny, an 82 year old woman, Sylvia Miller shocked three female thieves that made off with her purse. Miller chased the women through a Wal-Mart parking lot, across a field and through prickly brushes before the suspects gave up the handbag.
