SULTAN, WASHINGTON — An 80-year-old grandmother shot and killed a burglar who attacked and stabbed her husband last week in Washington.

According to KOMO News, Barb Moles was at home with her husband, John, and their adult son last Thursday night when she heard some commotion going on. She walked into the kitchen and discovered her husband bleeding on the floor.

Authorities say John had been stabbed with a knife and beaten with a crowbar. He was able to tell Barb, "I've been stabbed."

The grandmother of eight then went down the hall and into the master bedroom to retrieve her .38 caliber gun.

At first, Barb waited behind her bedroom door for the intruder to come in, but he never did.

She then walked out into the hallway and encountered the robber. She shot at him four times, striking him on three of them.

The burglar was identified as 25-year-old Steven N. Sheppard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still investigating the incident, but they think Sheppard may have been trying to steal prescription drugs. Moles says her vitamins were spilled all over the kitchen.

Barb's husband was transported to the hospital, where he has spent the past week in the intensive care unit. Doctors think he may have suffered a concussion. He is in stable condition and is getting better.
