Taiwan floods kill at least six

Torrential rain brought flood and mudslides to central and southern Taiwan with at least six people dead by Wednesday (June 13) and more than 7,000 forced to evacuate from their homes, according to Taiwan's Central Emergency Operation Center.

The military dispatched helicopters in response to the flood, and helped residents in the mountain areas to move to safety.

Soldiers also helped local residents to clear water out of their homes.

At least six died and two reported missing because of the flood, according to Taiwan's Central Emergency Operation Center.

Across Taiwan, 54 major highways were disrupted by flood and landslide, 32 of which have been cleared.

The total agricultural loss has been estimated at over 172 million TWD ($567,610 USD), and 87,380 households lost electricity and 12,015 experienced water supply shortage.
