Robin Gibb laid to rest, Shirley MacLaine honored by AFI

Bee Gee Robin Gibb was laid to rest on Friday (June 08). The singer was memorialized at a private ceremony in England. His brother Barry - now the only living member of the Bee Gees - gave an emotional tribute, speaking of Robin's "magnificent mind" and his "beautiful heart." The 62-year-old died from kidney failure last month after losing his battle with colon cancer.

Shirley MacLaine was honored with the 40th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award at an "A-list" gathering in Los Angeles. The actress has carved out a long and iconic career in American cinema and has appeared in more than 50 films, including her Academy Award winning performance for "Terms of Endearment." The ceremony will be broadcast on TV Land on June 24.

Madonna's MDNA tour is going strong. She most recently made a stop in Istanbul, Turkey. It was Madonna's first concert there in years and thousands showed up for the performance. Her next stop on the tour will be Rome on June 12.

Finally, Quincy Jones and Morgan Freeman presented Sidney Poitier with the ICON Award for Artistic Excellence this week in Los Angeles. Each year, the award is offered by the UCLA Longevity Center to people who enhance the lives of the world community. The actor was the first African American to win an Oscar for his 1963 film, "Lillies of the Field."
