This is the first installment in my video blog "Occupying While Black". In this installment I talk specifically about the Occupy Wall Street movement. The protest began September 17, 2011 in Zuccoti Park and has spread to over 100 US cities and 1,500 globally. OWS was inspired by the Arab Spring revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia. In the video I talk about social medias role in promoting the Occupy movement. I also use two YouTube videos to shed light on some of the criticisms of the movement such as violence and homeless people being evicted from parks. I go over some of the movements goals and share their principles of solidarity. I also talk about the demographics of the movement and the lack of African Americans.
