The body of an anti-government activist was found on a rooftop near Manama following fierce clashes between police and anti-government activists in Bahrain.
News of activist Salah Abbas Habib's death prompted thousands to take to the streets to call for democratic reform in the country and to demand Sunday's Formula One race be canceled. They say the high profile sporting event is part of the government's efforts to create the illusion of calm.
The protesters, mostly from the majority Shi'ite Muslim community, blame the Sunni ruling elite for shutting them out of opportunities, jobs and housing.
