Sydney has been hit by its heaviest rainfall in five years, shuttering public transport links and prompting dozens of evacuations.

Several major roads have been closed, some train stations have been flooded, and power reportedly cut to around 300 homes.

The downpour follows days of heavy flooding across New South Wales, the state's heaviest in nearly four decades.
