According to government sources in Jerusalem, Syrian President Bashar Assad has transmitted a message to Israel asking to renew indirect peace talks through Turkey. On Friday Prime Minister Ehud Olmert accepted the offer and said he intends to set a date for a fifth round of indirect talks with Syria. In response to the decision Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni called Olmert's decision acceptable, only if Olmert confines the talks to issues of maintenance, but not if he aspires to make new decisions. 11/02/08
