The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael G. Mullen, ended a two-day visit as the personal guest of the IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi on Sunday. During his visit Mullen toured the northern border and met with senior military commanders and toured the southern border with Gaza where he also received an update on the situation. It was Admiral Mullen's second visit to Israel since December.While Israel insisted that  Mullen's visit had been arranged in advance and was part of routine contacts between the two allies, his visit fueled speculation among foreign media networks that it was possibly in preparation for an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear sites.
