North Koreans mourn Kim's death

People in Pyongyang, who gathered in front of televisions for the 'important announcement on Monday (December 19),' cried out with great emotion as they heard the news of Kim's death.
Known at home as "the Dear Leader", Kim Jong il died on Saturday (December 17) due to a sudden illness while on a train trip.
Kim took over the reins of North Korea in 1994 when his father and founder of the reclusive state, Kim Il-sung, known as the Great Leader, died.
Residents in Pyongyang also laid flowers below the statue of Kim Il-sung, after they heard the news.
