On Sunday, a flash flood swept away a person and marooned two others in a pickup truck on a bridge in Guanyuan City in Sichuan Province.

It happened when the three migrant workers were driving a truck on a bridge over the Jailing River.

Heavy rain caused the sudden flood that swept away the first worker when he opened the truck door.

Three firefighters tried to rescue the other two trapped in the truck. But the heavy downpour and floating debris prevented the rescue.

Five other people were also stranded on the bridge. Policemen tried to help, but the seven-foot-high river levee was engulfed by the floodwater.

The roaring river prevented the rescue.

Rescuers eventually used an excavator to bring those marooned on the bridge to safety.
