And three days after the July 23rd train crash in Wenzhou, Chinese legal authorities had ordered lawyers not to represent families of the victims. Law firms received the "urgent statement" from the Wenzhou Judicial Bureau and the Wenzhou Lawyers' Association.

State-run Xinhua news agency reported, the order said lawyers should report to the two organizations "immediately after the injured passengers and families of the deceased in the accident come for legal help."

The order was publicized on the Internet and caused an outcry throughout China.

Then on Saturday, the Director of the Wenzhou Judicial Bureau, Liu Xianping apologized, telling the Xinhua news agency quote, "We didn't know the content of the statement before it was released."

The July 23rd train wreck on the outskirts of Wenzhou city was the worst yet to hit China's new high-speed rail system.
