Brands World Hunger Relief Effort September 23, 2010 - In an effort to raise awareness, volunteerism and funds for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and other hunger relief agencies, Yum! Brands, KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s and A&W All-American Food restaurants officially launched their annual World Hunger Relief global effort. Hunger and malnutrition are the number one risk to health worldwide. According to a new United Nations report approximately 1 billion people worldwide are hungry, many of them children. Yum!’s World Hunger Relief effort leverages its 37,000 restaurants and 1 million employees in what’s become the world’s largest private sector hunger relief effort. As an extension of its World Hunger Relief efforts, Yum! Brands Foundation is underwriting the ‘Muhammad Ali Center Peace Gardens’ to teach children in underprivileged areas how to grow food, feed themselves and others in need while embracing diverse cultures and nutrition.
