New Delhi is facing renewed flood fears as water levels in the raging Yamuna River reached a record 670 feet on Friday.

The water level in the river is likely to cross the danger mark.

Floodwaters entered populated areas, and have fully or partially inundated many areas around New Delhi.

The threat of floods has prompted authorities to evacuate people living in low-lying areas to higher ground.

"We are very worried about the losses. There is distress in all the villages devastated by the floods. We have lost our cows and property. Everywhere things have been destroyed. These are hard times for us."

This year's monsoon season has caused extensive floods in several parts of northern India including Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
