Tragedy Strikes at Bhushi Dam, Pune: Family Swept Away in Heartbreaking Incident

Five members of a single family were tragically swept away at Bhushi Dam in Lonavala, Pune, resulting in three fatalities, including two children. The incident unfolded around 1:30 PM on Sunday when a group of more than half a dozen children accompanied by a 40-year-old woman went for a bath near the waterfall. A 13-year-old girl slipped into the lake and began drowning, prompting the woman to enter the water to rescue her. Unfortunately, both were swept away by the strong current. Subsequently, other children who tried to help also faced difficulties.

The disaster management team quickly responded, launching a large-scale search operation. They managed to recover the bodies of the woman and two children, but efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining two children. The incident has sparked widespread concern as Bhushi Dam continues to overflow due to heavy rainfall, yet tourists still risk their safety by bathing in the area.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh provided updates, stating that the rescue efforts are progressing swiftly. The bodies of the 40-year-old woman and the 13-year-old child have been recovered, while the search continues for two 6-year-old girls and a 4-year-old boy, all from the same family. Later in the evening, another child's body was recovered, adding to the tragic toll of this devastating event.
