Google will partner with BlackRock to develop a 1-gigawatt pipeline of new solar capacity in Taiwan to boost renewable energy production. The investment will help Google achieve its goal of having all operations emit net-zero emissions by 2030. A portion of the new solar capacity from the pipeline will power Google's data centers and cloud region in Taiwan. Taiwan relies heavily on non-renewable energy like coal and gas for around 97% of its power. It manufactures approximately 60% of the global semiconductor chips and a larger percentage of advanced AI processors. The country's chip fabrication facilities are energy-intensive due to the complex manufacturing process.
