Ships await passage at drought-hit Panama canal

Numerous ships are stuck at the drought-affected Panama Canal due to water restrictions, causing congestion on this vital route that handles six percent of world maritime trade. Since its completion in 1914, the canal has helped over a million vessels avoid a long journey around South America.
