Almost 3 weeks after archaeologists stumbled upon an extremely rare Bronze Age sword at an ancient burial site in Germany, researchers have now discovered some of the largest early prehistoric stone tools in Britain. Among the tools discovered are two flint knives handaxes..each measuring a foot-long..and almost too big to be handled. The biggest one… a colossal 29.5cm in length, is one of the longest ever found in Britain. The excavations, which took place in Kent, revealed prehistoric artefacts in deep ice age sediments preserved on a hillside above Medway Valley. The researchers, from UCL Archaeology South-East, have discovered 800 stone artefacts belonging to perhaps the Ice Age. These are thought to be more than 300,000 years old, buried in material that had filled a sinkhole and an ancient river channel. Although archaeological finds of this age have been found in the area before, this is the first time they have been found as part of any large-scale excavation
