कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष पद के चुनाव से पहले हुए सियासी ड्रामे के बाद आखिरकार ये तय हो चुका है कि अब अध्यक्ष पद की रेस में कांग्रेस के दिग्गज नेता मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे और शशि थरूर आमने-सामने है। चुनाव से पहले दोनों नेताओं के बीच बयानबाजी का दौर भी शुरू हो चुका है। मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे के बयान पर शशि थरूर ने जवाब दिया है। थरूर ने खड़गे के बयान का जवाब देते हुए कहा कि कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष पद का चुनाव पार्टी के भीतर ही मुकाबला नहीं बल्कि पार्टी के सदस्यों के लिए यह चुनने के अवसर है कि भाजपा से प्रभावी तरीके से कैसे निपटें।
