हिंदू धर्म में माताएं अपनी संतान की लंबी आयु और संतान प्राप्ति के लिए कई व्रत रखती हैं. लेकिन कार्तिक मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी तिथि को रखे जाने वाला व्रत अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है. इस दिन अहोई अष्टमी का व्रत रखा जाता है. महिलाएं इस विधि-विधान के साथ अहोई माता की पूजा करती हैं और व्रत रखती है. इतना ही नहीं, इस दिन भगवान भोलेनाथ और माता पार्वती की पूजा भी की जाती है. बता दें कि अहोई अष्टमी का व्रत संतान की दीर्घायु के लिए रखा जाता है. वहीं, कुछ महिलाएं संतान प्राप्ति के लिए भी इस दिन व्रत रखती हैं. कहते हैं कि अगर गर्भ में संतान की मृत्यु हो रही हो तो उन महिलाओं के लिए भी अहोई अष्टमी का व्रत काफी शुभ माना जाता है.
