The full moon of Ashwin month is called Sharad Purnima. It is also called 'Raas Purnima'. According to astrological belief, on this day only in the whole year, the Moon is full of sixteen phases i.e. 16 arts. In religious scriptures, this day is considered as 'Kojagar Vrat'. This is also called 'Kaumudi Vrat'. This day of Rasotsav is actually set by Lord Krishna for the good of the world, it is believed that on this night, Sudha springs from the rays of the moon. In such a situation, this year i.e. in 2021, this Sharad Purnima will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. There are some special rules of this day, which are considered necessary to follow. According to these rules, along with following celibacy on this day, one should not take any kind of non-vegetarian and intoxicant. Money transactions are also not considered auspicious on these days.

आश्विन मास की पूर्णिमा ही शरद पूर्णिमा कहलाती हैं। इसे 'रास पूर्णिमा' भी कहा जाता है। ज्योतिष मान्यता के अनुसार संपूर्ण वर्ष में केवल इसी दिन चंद्रमा षोडश यानि 16 कलाओं से परिपूर्ण होता है। धर्म शास्त्रों में इस दिन 'कोजागर व्रत' माना गया है। इसी को 'कौमुदी व्रत' भी कहते हैं। रासोत्सव का यह दिन वास्तव में भगवान कृष्ण ने जगत की भलाई के लिए निर्धारित किया है, माना जाता है कि इस रात को चंद्रमा की किरणों से सुधा झरती है। ऐसे में इस साल यानि 2021 में ये शरद पूर्णिमा मंगलवार,19 अक्टूबर, 2021 को मनाई जाएगी है। इस दिन के कुछ खास नियम होते हैं, जिनका पालन करना आवश्यक माना गया है। इन नियमों के अनुसार इस दिन ब्रम्‍हचर्य का पालन करने के साथ ही किसी भी तरह के मांसाहार और नशा नहीं करना चाहिए। इन दिन धन का लेनदेन भी शुभ नहीं माना गया है। मान्यता है कि घर में सुख-समृद्धि के लिए इस दिन सुहागिन महिलाओं को भोजन कराने के अलावा सूर्यास्त से पहले कुछ भेंट भी देनी चाहिए। इस दिन सूर्यास्त के बाद बालों में कंघी करना या अग्नि पर तवा चढ़ाना शुभ नहीं माना जाता।
