Mumps or Confed, also known as mumps in English, is a viral disease. It is caused by infection in the parotid gland. This gland becomes swollen due to infection. The parotid gland is located below the ear and produces saliva and sputum in the mouth. Mumps is not an air-borne disease. It is spread from person to person due to virus. Usually this problem occurs from childhood to puberty, but it has no age. Symptoms of this disease appear much later. Although it is not a serious disease, but still when this infection occurs, the face looks unsightly, there is also unbearable pain in the cheeks and neck. Due to this pain, neither you are able to laugh openly nor are you able to eat food properly.

गलसुआ या कनफेड, जिन्हें अंग्रेजी में मम्प्स कहते हैं, एक विषाणु जनित रोग है। यह पैरोटिड ग्रंथि में संक्रमण की वजह से होता है। संक्रमण की वजह से इस ग्रंथि में सूजन आ जाती है। पैरोटिड ग्रंथि कान के नीचे तक होती है और मुंह में लार और थूक बनाती है। गलसुआ कोई हवा से फैलने वाला रोग नहीं है। यह एक व्यक्ति से दूसरे व्यक्ति में विषाणु की वजह से फैलता है। आमतौर पर यह परेशानी बचपन से युवावस्था में होती है, लेकिन इसकी कोई उम्र नहीं है। इस रोग के लक्षण बहुत बाद में जाकर दिखाई देते हैं। हालांकि यह कोई गंभीर बीमारी नहीं है, लेकिन फिर भी जब यह संक्रमण होता है तो चेहरा तो भद्दा लगता ही है, गालों और गर्दन में असहनीय दर्द भी होता है। इस दर्द की वजह से न तो आप खुल कर हंस पाते हैं और न ही ठीक से भोजन खा पाते हैं।
