Right now Pitru Paksha is going on and during these days Shradh, Tarpan and other auspicious deeds are done for the ancestors. In order to please the ancestors, daily tarpan should be done in the Shraddha Paksha. According to Ujjain's astrologer Pt. Manish Sharma, while performing the tarpan, water is offered to the ancestors from the thumb side.

अभी पितृ पक्ष चल रहा है और इन दिनों में पितरों के लिए श्राद्ध तर्पण और अन्य शुभ कर्म किए जाते हैं। पितरों को प्रसन्न करने के लिए श्राद्ध पक्ष में रोज तर्पण करना चाहिए। उज्जैन के ज्योतिषाचार्य पं. मनीष शर्मा के अनुसार तर्पण करते समय हाथ में जल लेकर अंगूठे की ओर से पितरों को चढ़ाया जाता है।
