In the first Test match, Joe Root was adjudged the Player of the Match, which has benefited him a lot. Joe Root has overtaken Indian captain Virat Kohli in the ICC Test rankings by scoring a half-century in the first innings and a century in the second innings against India in this match. Root is now in fourth position while Kohli is in fifth position. Indian batsmen did not get much benefit from this match but fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has definitely taken a long jump. Bumrah has now joined the list of ICC's top 10 bowlers.

पहले टेस्ट मैच में जो रुट को प्लेयर ऑफ़ दी मैच चुना गया था जिसका उन्हें काफी फायदा मिला है। जो रुट ने इस मैच में भारत के खिलाफ पहली पारी में अर्धशतक और दूसरी पारी में शतक लगा कर ICC टेस्ट रैंकिंग्स में भारतीय कप्तान विराट कोहली से आगे निकल गए है। रुट अब चौथे स्थान पर है जबकि कोहली पांचवे स्थान पर है। इस मैच से भारतीय बल्लेबाज़ों को तो कुछ ज़्यादा फायदा नहीं मिला मगर तेज़ गेंदबाज़ जसप्रीत बुमराह ने ज़रूर लम्बी छलांग मारी है। बुमराह अब ICC की टॉप 10 गेंदबाज़ों की लिस्ट में शामिल हो गए है।
