In England's original schedule for their tour of India, the two teams were to play five Tests. However, the BCCI and the ECB decided to swap out the fifth Test with a five-match T20I series. It will serve as preparation for the T20 World Cup, which will be held in October-November in India. All five T20Is will be played in Ahmedabad, with the first one on March 12.

भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम के बैटिंग कोच विक्रम राठौर का मानना है कि इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ पांच टी-20 मैचों की सीरीज से यह पता चल जाएगा कि इस साल होने वाली टी-20 विश्व कप की हमारी टीम क्या होगी। विक्रम राठौड़ के मुताबिक वो चाहते हैं कि इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ टी20 सीरीज खत्म होने तक भारतीय टीम फाइनल कर ली जाए। साथ ही साथ उन्होंने ये तक कहा की जो भी टीम इस सीरीज में फाइनल की जायेगी वो लगभग लगभग टी20 वर्ल्ड कप के लिए भी फाइनल होगी अगर कोई खिलाड़ी किसी बड़ी इंजरी का शिकार न हो तो।
