The four-day festival of Pongal starts today with Bhogi today. Pongal is the biggest festival of Tamil Nadu. Other states in southern India like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala also celebrate Pongal. Pongal corresponds with the Makar Sankranti and the arrival of the auspicious Uttarayan period. Celebrated with great enthusiasm, Bhogi revolves around the bonfire - much like the Lohri in Punjab.

आंध्र प्रदेश और तेलंगाना में धूम-धाम से भोगी त्योहार मनाया जा रहा है.पोंगल दक्षिण भारतीय हिंदुओं का प्रमुख त्योहार है। ये हर साल सूर्य के उत्तरायण होने पर 4 दिन तक मनाया जाता है। मकर संक्रांति और लोहड़ी की तरह ही पोंगल भी मुख्य रूप से खेती और फसलों से जुड़ा पर्व है। इस त्योहार को आस्था और संपन्नता से जोड़कर मनाया जाता है। तमिल हिंदू इस पर्व को चार दिन तक मनाते हैं और हर दिन के पोंगल का अलग नाम होता है।
