Raghuram Rajan, former Governor of Reserve Bank of India, has raised questions on the 'Self-reliant India' campaign of Modi government. He feared that it might not turn into protectionism, which we have not got good results before. He said that such policies were adopted earlier but did not show any benefit. Rajan said that he is not yet clear what the government means by 'self-sufficient India'. If it is about creating an environment for production, then it is like introducing the Make in India initiative.

भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक के पूर्व गवर्नर रघुराम राजन ने मोदी सरकार के 'आत्मनिर्भर भारत' अभियान पर सवाल उठाये हैं. उन्होंने आशंका जताई कि कहीं यह संरक्षणवाद में न बदल जाए जिसका हमें पहले अच्छा परिणाम नहीं मिला है. उन्होंने कहा कि पूर्व में इस प्रकार की नीतियां अपनाई गई लेकिन उसका कोई लाभ नहीं दिखा। राजन ने कहा कि उन्हें अब तक यह साफ नहीं है कि आखिर सरकार का ‘आत्मनिर्भर भारत’ से मतलब क्या है। अगर यह उत्पादन के लिए एक परिवेश बनाने को लेकर है, तब यह ‘मेक इन इंडिया’ पहल को नए रूप में पेश करने जैसा है।
