Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday said that National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti had refused to take part in panchayat elections in J&K under Pakistan's pressure. Malik said he broke protocol and went to both the leaders after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that panchayat elections will be held in the Union Territory. However, the two former chief ministers had boycotted due to pressure from Pakistan.

जम्मू-कश्मीर के पूर्व राज्यपाल सत्यपाल मलिक ने बताया कि इन दोनों नेताओं ने पाकिस्तान के दबाव में पंचायत चुनाव में हिस्सा लेने से मना कर दिया था।पंचायत चुनाव को लेकर उन्होंने कहा, 'प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने कहा था कि हम जम्मू-कश्मीर में पंचायत चुनाव कराना चाहते हैं। मैं प्रोटोकॉल तोड़कर उमर अब्दुल्ला और महबूबा मुफ्ती के आवास पर गया। उन्होंने पाकिस्तान के दबाव में इसमें हिस्सा लेने से मना कर दिया। आतंकियों ने भी धमकी दी थी लेकिन चुनाव सफलतापूर्वक कराए गए।'
