Locals staged protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) demanding its withdrawal in Guwahati on Nov 22. Different organisations including Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti staged the protest. They held placards that read - 'Withdraw CAB Permanently' and 'Assam Opposes CAB'. They also raised slogans against the bill. Hundreds of people took out the protest march across the city. Protesters said the bill would breach the clauses of the "historic" Assam Accord, which states that all illegal immigrants who came into the country from Bangladesh after 1971, irrespective of their religion, have to be deported.
