Locals staged protest in several areas of Assam against Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 on December 09. Security has been beefed up around the area. Shops were closed in Guwahati following a shutdown called by various organisations opposing CAB. Citizenship Amendment Bill seeks to give Indian citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians who are facing persecution in neighbouring countries. Bill has been tabled in Lok Sabha today.
