Bhishma Panchak has great importance in Hinduism . In the Puranas, 'Bhishma Panchak' fast is said to have special significance in the month of Kartik . This fast Karthik month Shukla side of Ekadashi begins and the full moon lasts. Bhishma Panchak is also known as ‘Panch Bhikhu’. Karthik bath is given a lot of importance in the scriptures . Hence, all the people who take bath in Kartik do this fast. This fast was observed by Bhishma Pitamah , hence it became famous as 'Bhishma Panchak'.

भीष्म पंचक का हिन्दू धर्म में बड़ा ही महत्त्व है। पुराणों में कार्तिक माह में 'भीष्म पंचक' व्रत का विशेष महत्त्व कहा गया है। यह व्रत कार्तिक माह में शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी से आरंभ होता है तथा पूर्णिमा तक चलता है। भीष्म पंचक को 'पंच भीखू' के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। धर्मग्रंथों में कार्तिक स्नान को बहुत महत्त्व दिया गया है। अत: कार्तिक स्नान करने वाले सभी लोग इस व्रत को करते हैं। भीष्म पितामह ने इस व्रत को किया था, इसलिए यह 'भीष्म पंचक' नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ । भीष्म पंचक पूजा विधि के दौरान क्या करें क्या ना करें ।
