Ambala City Assembly seat has never been dominated by any single party. Assembly elections were held for the first time in Panipat rural assembly seat in 2009, in which Independent candidate Om Prakash Jain defeated INLD candidate by more than 6 thousand votes. At the same time, in the 2014 assembly elections, BJP candidate Mahipal Dhanda won with 62,074 votes.

अंबाला सिटी विधानसभा सीट पर कभी भी किसी एक पार्टी का वर्चस्व नहीं रहा है. पानीपत ग्रामीण विधानसभा सीट पर साल 2009 में पहली बार विधानसभा का चुनाव कराया गया, जिसमें निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार ओम प्रकाश जैन ने आईएनएलडी के उम्मीदवार को 6 हजार से ज्यादा वोटों से हराया था। वहीं 2014 के विधानसभा चुनाव में बीजेपी उम्मीदवार महिपाल ढांडा ने 62,074 वोट पाकर जीत हासिल की थी।
