MANILA - The camp of Janet Lim Napoles on Tuesday said she is open to having surgery in other facilities closer to her detention center in Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa, Laguna to get treatment for a mass in her uterus. The manifestation was made by Atty. Bruce De Vera during a hearing in Branch 150 of the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) to convince the court to allow Napoles to have the procedure. "In an ideal world, we would have wanted her to get the surgery at St. Luke's, but beggars can't be choosers," De Vera said. Police Chief Inspector Michelle Daguno, an OB-gynecologist from the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital who performed a check-up on Napoles two weeks ago, said the patient has myoma uteri. Daguno said Napoles' uterus has a size similar to that of a 12-week pregnant woman because of the mass. She, however, said that while the condition may cause pain, it was not "serious." An elective surgery may be performed at the request of the patient, she said. The prosecution zeroed in on Daguno's testimony that the procedure was not "urgent", and hinted that the surgery can be done in other hospitals aside from St. Luke's Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City. Another hearing is set on March 18 to allow the camp of Napoles to convince the court to allow the procedure.
