China has strongly opposed U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion... urging President Xi Jinping to sit down with pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong amid heightening tensions.
Beijing's foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Saturday... the most urgent matter is to restore order and quell the violence... adding that they're seriously undermining the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong.
She added... violence has been escalating since the protests broke out in June,... harming the 'one China, two systems' policy.
Hua said China's central government fully supports Hong Kong's chief executive Carrie Lam and her administration... in enforcing the rule of law.
