The U.S. Senate has rebuked President Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the southern border.
Twelve Republicans joined Democrats in Thursday's vote to overturn Trump's declaration aimed at providing billions of dollars in state funds for his border wall with Mexico.
In a tweet shortly later, the president vowed to veto the decision.
Congress needs a two-thirds majority of both chambers to override a presidential veto, which is unlikely.
The issue could ultimately be decided by the courts.
Thursday's vote came just a day after the Senate dealt another blow to his foreign policy by voting to end U.S. support for the Saudi Arabian-led coalition's war in Yemen.
