Rescue efforts at collapsed Indonesian gold mine

Views 190

An illegal gold mine collapsed and triggered a landslide in Bolaang Mongondow, north Sulawesi, Indonesia, killing at least seven and burying dozens. At least 19 victims have been rescued.
However unstable land conditions and a lack of heavy machinery have hampered rescue efforts, with rescuers resorting to simple tools like spades, ropes, and even their bare hands. Similar incidents include a mine collapse in Sulawesi in 2018 in which at least five people died, while 11 miners were killed in 2016 after a gold mine collapsed in Sumatra.
