Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not been invited to the Vijaya Dashmi celebrations at the iconic Ramleela Maidan in central Delhi on Friday evening.
The powerful Ramleela Committee, which organises the annual event at the sprawling grounds next to the Red Fort, have instead invited the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The Ramleela Ground Committee is headed by Congress leader JP Aggarwal, who on Friday said the prime ministers from non-Congress parties have never visited the Ramleela grounds on Dussehra.
"It is the committee's prerogative. There are several Ramleela committees and it is upto them to invite people. Our chief guest is Sonia Gandhi and we have invited her," Aggarwal said.
Sources in the PMO said Modi is expected to attend the Ravan Dahan at Subhash Maidan, another ground not far from Ramleela Maidan in the national capital.
