The controversy over Mullaperiyar Dam between Tamil Nadu and Kerala has seemingly come to an end. In a major blow to Kerala's claims that century old dam is unsafe, the Supreme Court-appointed empowered committee has ruled that the dam is safe. The committee has also asked the Kerala Government to reconsider its proposal to build a new dam. The dam located in Kerala's Idduki district and maintained by Tamil Nadu public works department, the dam looms over the states as a massive bone of contention. The Supreme Court is set to examine the report on July 23.
