3 It is said that he had obtained the blessings of Ksheera Ramalingeswara with his Tapasya in his childhood.

4 During his childhood, Upamanyu was an obedient disciple of Guru Dhaumya.
5 Sage Upamanyu once had consumed Arka leaves and lost his eyesight.

6 His preceptor advised him to praise the twin healers of gods called Ashwin (Ashvin) Devatas, through the Vedic Ruchas.

7 Invoked by Upamanyu's sincere prayer, the Aswini Devatas appeared before him and restored his eyesight after he passed their test.

8 They also granted him a golden tooth, Hiranmaya and Guru Dhaumya blessed him with the capacity to know everything.
