1. Thambulam or Tamboola is an ancient ritual wherein the deity is served with an amazing variety of condiments.

2. Amongst the Shodashopachara, the step that comes immediately after Naivedya is Tamboola.

3. The articles submitted to invoke blessings from the deity contain betel leaves, nutmeg, areca nuts, camphor, tandol, vermilion, and other fresh mints.

4. The coins are not offered along with Tamboola offering. It is only kept on the betel leaf while formally handing out Dakshina after the Shodashopachara.

5. ||Om Sri Mahaganapataye Namah, Tamboolam Samarpayaami||
This mantra is chanted by the poojari (priest) while practicing this rite, which is both as an act of devotion and adoration.

6. A few believe that it gestures of respect, just like any superiors were offered Paan-Supari after a feast.

7. The popular belief behind this practice is that it helps in digesting the food, this is why presented to the gods after the Naivedhyam.

8. Devotees should keep in mind that Tamboola is should not be offered during the daily Pooja offered in Hindu homes.
