1. Indian Sandalwood (Chandan) is one of the most sacred herbs of Ayurveda, which is used in rituals and medicine.
2. It is mentioned as a holy element in Vedic scriptures and Ayurvedic medicinal blends.
3. Its paste is prepared by grinding it upon granite, which is later used in pujas and tilak.
4. In Hinduism and Ayurveda, sandalwood is thought to bring devotees closer to the divine.
5. From ancient times, Sandalwood associated with different deities. Like Goddess Lakshmi is believed to reside in the sandalwood tree.
6. Vamana Purana recommends the devotees to use it while worshiping Lord Shiva.
7. Hindus also believe that sandalwood is a sacred tree of Lord Indra and the whole of paradise is scented with its fragrance.
8. In Mahabharata, Krishna and Arjuna used it to test the dedication of Yudhisthira and Karna.
9. Many Hindu communities also place pieces of sandalwood in a funeral pyre to purify it.
10. In Hindu wedding ceremony, crushed sandalwood is offered to the sacred fire called Havan.
