South Korea and China are resuming their joint patrols on illegal fishing activities in the West Sea.
According to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries on Tuesday,… the two sides have decided to conduct joint inspections in the jointly-managed provisional water zone.
The joint patrols have been on hold since 2016 when the Korean Coast Guard used force to seize a Chinese vessel fishing illegally in Korean waters,… resulting three Chinese fishermen dying from smoke inhalation.
Each country's coast guard will monitor operations by unregistered ships, violations of territorial waters and obstruction of official duties in the zones.
Some 200 Chinese boats have been caught for illegal fishing activities this year,… down 12 percent from a year earlier.
