A San Francisco man was seriously injured, suffering fractures to the skull and bleeding in his brain, after he was attacked by the occupant of a car on September 8.
This surveillance footage, provided by the San Francisco Police Department, shows the moment Christopher Matthews approached a white vehicle along the intersection of 1st and Howard Streets, assuming that it was his ride-share vehicle. According to a press release issued by the police, the occupant of the vehicle, an Asian male about six feet tall and 180 pounds, exited the car and punched Matthews, causing him to collapse to the ground. The attack can be seen about 45 seconds into the video.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Matthews spent four days in intensive care and had difficulty remembering his wife, Rebecca, after he woke up. He is currently recovering from his injuries but has suffered damage to his long-term memory, speech and physical coordination.
